GUWAHATI: Senior Assam first class cricketer Gokul Sharma today announced retirement from limited-over format of cricket.
He will, however, continue to play in the days-match format of the game.
“I have called it a day only the limited-over format. I’ll continue to play Ranji Trophy and other days-matches,” Sharma told InsideNE over phone from Chennai where he is leading Assam in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Sharma, who led Assam for several years as captain of the Ranji Trophy team, has been opting out of the T20 format over the past four years.

Under his captaincy, Assam today finished the Plate group A league winning all the five league matches to table 20 points to be elevated to the Elite group next season. Assam, who aggregated a net run rate of 1.90, however, missed a playoffs berth to table toppers Uttarakhand who also tallied 20 points with a net run rate of 3.273.
About the BCCI’s decision to skip the Ranji Trophy 2020-21 edition, Sharma said: “Missing it a lot. But, it’s the situation that made it impossible. Let’s hope we get to play next season.”
The allrounder has played 65 one-dayers and 24 T20 matches for Assam and East Zone. He made his one-dayers debut against Bengal in Kolkata in January 2005 and his T20 career spanned from 2007 to 2016.
