The Hills Tribes Students’ Association (HTSA) has called a ‘bandh’ on the 11th of this month to protest the BJP Government’s new policies including the amendment of the Citizenship (Act), 1985. The 12-hour ‘bandh’ will be called from 5 am-5 pm.
The ‘bandh’ has been called in protest against the following: The implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016; the Constitution (scheduled tribes) Amendment Bill 2019 and the BLT Accord Clause-8 (inclusion of Bodos in ST (Hills) residing in Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong districts.
It is to be mentioned that a 'bandh' has also been called in Nagaland on the same date. It is widely feared that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 will be tabled at the Rajya Sabha on the day.
