GUWAHATI: A huge consignment of contraband Burmese Supari ( betelnuts ) was seized at Guwahati’s Paltan Bazar railway station on late Saturday night.
The contraband Burmese Supari suspected to have been smuggled from Myanmar was seized from inside the coaches of the down Agartala-Sealdah Kanchenjunga Express.

The betelnuts were recovered in a joint operation by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Police Force (RPF) from three different coaches of the Kachanjunga Express on its way from Agartala to Sealdah.
There were about 500 bags of the Burmese Supari.
The betel nuts seized were worth Rs 1.5 crore.
Despite their negative health effects, betel nuts are widely chewed in South Asia.
