GUWAHATI: Don Bosco School, Panbazar in Guwahati has announced that from today onwards, the school will not have physical classes following the increasing spike in COVID -19 cases in the state.

The school will opt for online classes from April 26, and new routine will be issued soon for class VI to XII in this regard.

However, classes KG to V will continue online classes as usual.

State health and education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on April 21 during a high-level meeting with Education Department officials to assess the COVID 19 situation in the state that if the daily COVID case rate in Guwahati Metro reaches 1000, the district administration has full authority to close educational institutions and hostels.

Assam meanwhile, reported the year’s highest single-day spike with 1931 fresh cases over the past 24 hours, while 10 new fatalities pushed the death toll to 1,160.

With the fresh COVID-19 cases states tally has mounted to 2,31,069.

Kamrup (M) recorded the highest number of 680 new cases, followed by Dibrugarh 143, Kamrup 136 and Nagaon 103.

Currently, the state has 10,571 active cases, while 2,17,991 patients have recovered from the disease, including 398 as of yesterday.

The COVID-19 recovery rate in the state now is 94.34 %.

The state has so far tested 80,98,956 samples for COVID-19 and positivity rate is 2.63 %.
