Guwahati (Assam),

At least 12 local organisations in Sivasagar on Friday called for an economic blockade on roads leading to Nagaland demanding the setting up of border outposts and actions against alleged encroachment of land by miscreants from the neighbouring state.

The organisations, including All Tai Ahom Students’ Union, alleged that over the past few months, there were regular attacks on the locals by the Naga miscreants and attempts by them to encroach upon Assam’s land.

When contacted, Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha told InsideNe that multiple organisations had called for the blockade and all of them demanded the administration set up police outposts along the interstate border to ensure security to the lives and property of the locals.

He said the administration was in a discussion with the organisations and the blockade might be lifted by the evening. He added that a similar discussion with them would be held on Saturday.
