Eid-ul-Azha is being celebrated across the country on Monday.
Eid-ul-Azha which is also known as 'Feast of the Sacrifice', or Eid Qurban or Bakri Eid is celebrated in commemoration of the supreme sacrifice offered by Hazrat Ibrahim and his son Hazrat Ismail in the fulfillment of the divine order.
People across the country have offered Eid prayers at Eidgahs‚ principal mosques and open places across the country.
Special prayers were also offered for the prosperity of the country and unity among the Muslim Ummah.
After prayers‚ the Muslims offered sacrifices of animals in accordance with the Sunnah of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also wished the people of the country and tweeted, “My best wishes on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. I hope it furthers the spirit of peace and happiness in our society. Eid Mubarak!”
Smriti Irani tweeted, “#EidMubarak May Eid be a harbinger of happiness, peace and prosperity for all ?”
Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan also tweeted, “Eid mubarak everyone. May you all have a wonderful Eid. Make sure to give qurbani to the needy #eidmubarak
@iamyusufpathan”
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also wished the people and tweeted, "#EidMubarak! My heartfelt greetings. May the auspicious occasion strengthen our bonds of brotherhood and bring peace, prosperity and joy to all. #EidAlAdha"
