Guwahati, August 10, 2019:

Adding to the trend, former Rajya Sabha MP, Santiuse Kujur has also tendered resignation from the party on Saturday. In his resignation letter to the president of All India Congress Party, Kujur cited his resignation as a personal decision.

In the resignation letter, Santiuse Kujur stated, “I have worked with the party for more than 13 years and I have been very pleased to be a part of a leading political party for which I am thankful.”

Kujur will join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) tomorrow in presence of Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

It is to be mentioned that earlier, senior Congress leader Gautam Roy from Assam’s Barak Valley tendered resignation from his post in the party. Gautam Roy is likely to join BJP in Barak.

Roy has submitted his resignation letter to Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora.

Earlier, former Rajya Sabha MP Bhubaneshwar Kalita has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) yesterday at New Delhi.

Sources have also told Inside Northeast that the former Congressman will be sworn in as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, one of the two parts of the newly-bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir.

A lieutenant governor, lieutenant-governor, or vice governor is a high officer of state, whose precise role and rank vary by jurisdiction. Often a lieutenant governor is the deputy or lieutenant to or ranking under a governor — a “second-in-command”.

Earlier, Congress MP from the Rajya Sabha, Bhubaneshwar Kalita, unexpectedly resigned from his post on Monday at around 9 am in the morning.

This unexpected development sent ripples across the state of Assam and elsewhere, as Kalita is one of the seniormost leaders of the region from the Congress.

Later, Bhubaneshwar Kalita, who had lost the 2019 Lok Sabha election on a Congress ticket, stated that he had resigned due to his party’s stand on the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganization Bill and apparent opposition to the revoking of the Article 370 and 35A, granting special rights to Kashmiri citizens.
