GOALPARA: The four model polling stations in Goalpara district -- one each in every constituency -- with a unique theme have been generating a lot of enthusiasm among the voters.

Polling for the final phase of Assam assembly elections has got under way in the four constituencies at 7 am.

In Makhipara Govt JB School polling station of Dudhnoi constituency, the concept of unity and diversity is the theme. Dudhnoi is a constituency of multiple cultures/languages/religions and ethnicities. A bamboo arch depicting the culture, ethnic fabrics and handicrafts and mannequins in tribal attire greet voters at the gate and the selfie zone.

At Baladmari Chah Bagan Model Polling Station in Goalpara East constituency gives the voter a “red carpet welcome”. The polling station has several components such as children’s play zone, seating lounge, selfie zone, muppets etc. The selfie zone is made in semblance with red carpet zone seen in red carpet events giving the people a celebratory experience. The mini seating area is themed on “inclusivity” and transgender rights in rainbow colour fabric.

In Ambari Tiniali Bazaar High School in Goalpara West constituency, the theme is the widely celebrated Assamese festival of bihu. The arch is adorned with several Assamese traditional items, seating lounge/gazebo/pagoda with decorative chairs, designed with several props, standees and box pillars giving the polling booth a festive outlook.

The theme for Haldibari ME Madrassa in Jaleswar constituency is environment, pollution, water pollution etc. The polling booth has been equipped with display area of recycled products such as plastic bottles, waste paper etc. Every voter is also handed a sapling as a memento from the administration’s side. The arch is adorned with props such as dhari mat, jakoi and other traditional Assamese tools. It also has an art installation made with recycled bottles, plastics wrappers etc.

For the children accompanying their parents, the model booths have a designated play area relevant to the theme and seating areas with decorated chairs for the voters along with access to bottled mineral water.
