Guwahati gets its first FIFA-approved football turf with objective to develop grassroots talents

Guwahati: Game On Arena, the first FIFA approved football turf and sports complex in Guwahati, was inaugurated yesterday. The turf will now be used to develop the young up and coming talents in the city affirmed Game On Arena Manager Sajad Siddique, who says that parents of the children can now breathe more easily knowing that their wards shall be playing on turf approved by football's apex body.

The artificial turf located at Beharbari, Kerakuchi Tiniali, and built with the objective to boost Grassroots Football infrastructure in the state held their Grand Opening with a Grassroots exhibition match.

The joint venture of father-son duo Hiren Barman and Jiten Barman was brought to life by Manager and IIM graduate in Sports Management Sajad Siddique who intends to take forward his vision of grassroots development in the field of sports, especially football in association with Guwahati City Football Club (GCFC) in their activities.

Leading Lighting company Kritron also helped in bringing the turf to its world standard. The turf will also be used for recreational purposes within subsidized rates.

The event started with words of encouragement following the ribbon-cutting ceremony by Chief Guests; Mr. Subodh Malla Barua, President, All India Sport Journalists’ Federation and Mr. Kamalakanta Loitongbam, N.F. Railways Coach, AFC B License and AIFF D License instructor along with Mr Siddhartha Sankar Deka, Co-Founder of Guwahati City Football Club (GCFC).

GCFC Co-Founders Kaustab Chakraborty and Darick Ranjan Deka also graced the occasion with their presence. A U9 exhibition match between GCFC Academy and Kaziranga Football Academy was also played where a wave of crowd and media adorned the event as well.
