Illegal coal smuggle intercepted in Upper Assam; one nabbed

MARGHERITA: Acting on a tip off, personnel of the Ledo police outpost Friday midnight intercepted a vehicle being used to ferry coal

According to officials, they apprehended one Sumit Mishra (22) and an illegal coal loaded Bolero Pick up Vehicle from Tikak Colliery Security Gate of NEC Coal India Limited under Ledo Police Outpost.

Mishra, who is the driver of the seized vehicle, is a resident of Ledo.

The seized vehicle bearing registration Number AS 23CC 1336 and was reportedly carrying a ton of illegal coal.

A Case Number 304/2021 US 379,411 IPC 3PDPP Act has been registered at Margherita Police Station and the accused has been sent to judicial custody.

According to locals, more than 200 trucks, trailers and dumpers carrying illegal coal ply along NH 315 through Margherita and reach other parts of Assam.

Police sources informed that they are not allowed to check any vehicles at the National Highway whether they are illegal coal, sand, stone or any other items.
