The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sent out an alert, warning of further rise in water level in the upper catchment of Dhansiri river due to incessant rains.
According to IMD bulletin, the water level is likely to rise by 20-24cm in Golaghat within 10-12 hours and about 20-40 cm in the next 24 hours at Numaligarh.
The IMD warned that rainfall in Nagaland could also affect the Dikhow river system, even as the water level of the Brahmaputra has risen sharply and flowing above danger level at Neamatighat.
Meanwhile, due to the creation of an artificial lake caused by landslides near the Doyang hydroelectric project, the situation could further worsen by bringing more water into the Doyang and Dhansiri rivers.
