Speaker asks Kurmi not to use impolite words in Housespeaker

Guwahati, October 3, 2018:

Assam Assembly speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami on Wednesday asked Congress MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi to avoid using impolite words during House proceedings for the maintenance of decorum.

The House witnessed chaotic scenes after the MLA had raised the issue of appointment of school teachers. He made a comment, “Dogs will bark” following which the members of ruling BJP and opposition Congress got engaged in a war of words.

Later, Kurmi said, “My mother taught me an old proverb ‘the elephant keeps walking as the dogs keep barking’. I am no less than an elephant as I was asking the right question”.

Criticising the conflict between BJP and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, he said he was deeply concerned about the welfare of people.
