Track sensation Hima Das has been chosen as one of the ‘state icons’ who will encourage the people of Assam to cast their votes in the Lok Sabha polls. Hima is among several prominent faces that have been chosen to influence people to vote so that they exercise the right to vote and make their voices heard in the upcoming election.
Speaking to InsideNE, Assam’s Chief Election Commissioner M.C. Sahu said: “The personalities will act as our ‘state icons’. Since they have some respectability among the public, we will try to send some messages through them with regard to how to vote, the people must vote, how to get names enrolled, etc. We will use them to pass on the messages as the people will be able to associate themselves with them. These will be done on banners, posters, and we may also shoot some audio or videos with them.”
Apart from the ‘Dhing Express’, Mr. World Golap Rabha, environmentalist Purnima Devi Barman, singer Tarali Sharma, world youth boxing Ankushita Boro and actor Kapil Bora are the other 'state icons' who will relay the messages to the voting public of Assam. This was announced by Chief Electoral Officer of Assam, M.C Sahu.
The drive to use celebrities to encourage people to vote is being done under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation Program (SVEEP)
