A nine-member child scientists from Hailakandi district will be participating at the State level Children's Science Congress at Majuli, which is under way from Tuesday and will continue till October 26.
The focal theme of this year is 'Science, Technology and Innovation for a Clean, Green and Healthy Nation'. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will inaugurate the event on Wednesday.
Prior to their departure, a district level mentoring programme was organised at the premises of Rotary Club, Hailakandi in association with the Assam Science Society, Hailakandi branch, where Inspector of Schools Rajiv Kumar Jha was present as chief guest. Jha interacted with the selected young scientists and gave them valuable inputs on developing scientific temper.
District Coordinator, Dr. Pinak Pani Nath Choudhury welcomed all the guests and participants in the programme. Secretary, Assam Science Society, Lutfur Rahman and Rotarian Shankar Choudhury monitored the programme.
The little scientists representing Hailakandi district are Abu Saleh, Ruhit Paul, Suprio Roy, Tahmidul Hoque, Adity Das (all from Spring Valley Central School), Debangsi Biswas (Blue Flowers School), Sahina Akhtar (Royal High School), Lakhi Mazumder (P.K.Girls' School), Khaleda Khanom (I.K.Girls' School) and Priyanka Bin (Mount Peak School).
Debangsi Biswas of Blue Flowers School has opted out citing personal problems.
National Children's Science Congress (NCSC) is a nationwide science communication programme started in the year 1993. It is a programme held under the aegis of National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
It is a forum for children of the age-group of 10-17 years, both from formal school system as well as from out-of-school, to exhibit their creativity and innovativeness and more particularly their ability to solve a societal problem experienced locally using the method of science.
The main objectives of NCSC are relating learning science with the environment around; encouraging the children to understand the environment, its problems and prospects and to help them to find feasible solutions; stimulating scientific temper through the use and internalization of the method of science, i.e., observation, collection of data, experiments, analysis and then arriving at conclusions.
Two best projects from each state are allowed entry in the Indian Science Congress (ISC). The second group member of the project team is eligible to participate in the ISC.
Selected projects will be provided financial support, patent support and guidance, scientific technical consultancy, fabrication assistance, market information and networking with related research lab/institutes, as required.
