Old Saraighat to be opened in a month: CM Sonowal

Guwahati, April 29, 2019:

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday visited the old Saraighat Bridge over Brahmaputra river that is undergoing repairs from March 2019.

The CM reviewed the progress in the repair work and expressed confidence that the bridge would be opened for the public within a month.

The construction company officials provided the necessary technical knowledge and about the manpower used for the completion of the bridge to CM Sonowal.

However, it may be mentioned that Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kamrup district, Kamal Kumar Baishya on Saturday said that at the speed at which the NFR is moving to repair the bridge, the work will not even be complete in the coming months. People traveling through the bridge are facing problems as repairing work is still going on.

The DC further condemned the Railways for appointing only thirteen workers to repair the huge bridge and added that only 20% of the work has been completed.
