The Tinsukia railway station in Assam on Saturday became the 4000th railway station in the country to get connected with WiFi.
Informing this, railway minister Piyush Goyal tweeted, “Tinsukia in Assam has become the 4,000th station in the country where free WiFi facility has been launched.”
Goyal further added that his facility will now connect citizens with the world of technology and would help in empowering them.
Providing high-speed public WiFi services to the citizens in railway stations across the country was launched as a key initiative under the Indian government’s Digital India program by RailTel in partnership with Google.
It may be mentioned here that the Tinsukia Railway Station got a major makeover in July, 2019.
Back then, Piyush Goyal had taken to Twitter to express his excitement at this new development. Goyal tweeted: “New Tinsukia Junction railway station in Assam gets a ravishing makeover bringing it at par with airports in terms of modern amenities, hygiene and comfort, fulfilling the aspirations of people of North-East.”
It may be mentioned here that New Tinsukia is a railway junction station on the Lumding-Dibrugarh section. It is located in Tinsukia district in the Indian state of Assam.
It serves Tinsukia and the surrounding areas. It is the second station in the town of Tinsukia after the old Station.
