17 cows burnt to death in fire incident in Assam's Karimganj, owner demands probe

In a horrific incident, as many as 17 cows were burnt to death after a fire engulfed a cattleman's house in Assam's Karimganj on the wee hours of Friday (June 14). Of the 30 cows present, two cows were severely injured in the fire incident.

The cattleman, Ramadhar Kairi, from Indurala village of Baghan GP of Patharkandi, alleged that the cows were set on fire as the "culprits" could not take revenge on him. Hence, he demanded a deputy commissioner's inquiry into the incident.

Kairi's sons, Sujit and Suraj, respectively managed to save the remaining cows in the shed. Kairi further claimed that in this incident, Kairi's property worth Rs 10 lakh was burnt to ashes.

Upon information, the police reached the spot and an investigating is underway.

The cattleman also informed that a similar incident happened at his sister's house in 2015. The resident had domesticated 30 cows, that were burnt alive.

Initial reports suggested there was an electrical malfunction. However, a strong smell of petrol from the site indicated that someone purposely set the house on fire.
