Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has confirmed the arrest of eight individuals in connection with a nationwide operation targeting Islamic fundamentalists. Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister stated that Assam Police had been assigned the task of apprehending these suspects as part of a larger crackdown. "Today, a movement was conducted nationwide against Islamic fundamentalists. The Assam Police were responsible for arresting eight individuals. We have arrested those eight people and handed them over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA)," Sarma said, adding that further details of the operation would be provided by the NIA.
In a separate announcement, the Chief Minister outlined significant administrative reforms aimed at enhancing governance in Assam. Sarma explained that these reforms will streamline bureaucratic processes at the local level. "In Assam, we have introduced an administrative reform where residents of an Assembly constituency will no longer need to visit the District Commissioner’s office. Instead, all their work, from caste certificate issuance to revenue-related matters, will be handled at the Co-District level," Sarma elaborated, emphasizing that this change would ensure that the concerns of each Assembly constituency are addressed more efficiently.
