A widow’s ordeal: Woman along with two kids stranded in flood-hit Dhubri, seeks assistance

The town of Dhubri has been observed flooded along with numerous other char places, posing a serious problem and the Brahmaputra river is currently flowing above 1 metre and beyond the danger mark of 28.62 metres.

Due to the terrible floods caused by the Brahmaputra River in Dhubri, a poor widow Fatema Bibi, who is completely defenceless with her two minor children has become trapped and has been impacted immensely in Kaim Bhashani char under the jurisdiction of Bhashani char Gaon Panchayat.

In an interview with the correspondent, Bibi stated, "My two kids and I are fighting to survive; the floodwaters have overtaken our Kaim Bhashani char home, leaving us without a safe place to sleep." My goats had to be transferred to a different house, and my ducks are stranded in the flood. Please step forward and provide assistance if you or someone you know can offer emergency relief, such as food, shelter, or other support.

The poor widow and her two minor children had been starving for days due to the extreme floods. They are stranded along with many other villagers as the floodwaters submerge Bhashani char Gaon Panchayat region and have left many residents in similar distress, urgently needing aid and support.

Awareness campaigns have been launched among the residents of the flood-affected regions, and efforts have been taken by the administration to set up distribution centres and relief camps in response to the rising water level. The absence of action from officials in Bhashani char Gaon Panchayat highlights the urgent need for intervention and support for the affected communities.

Currently, no public representative, local MLA, or MP has raised voice regarding the dire situation in Kaim Bhashani char region and the surrounding areas of Bhashani Gaon Panchayat. Despite the severe flooding, which has left a helpless widow and her two minor children, along with many others, stranded and starving, there appears to be a significant lack of attention from local authorities.
