AFSPA removed from several areas, more than 7000 youths abjured violence in Assam: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing a mass public rally in Guwahati on February 4 said that northeast is now peaceful with AFSPA (Armed Forces Special Powers Act) removed from several districts and more than 7000 youths of Assam have abjured violence and joined the mainstream.

"Northeast is witnessing an era of peace and growth. More than 7,000 youths have left weapons and have taken the vow to work for the progress of the country. AFSPA has been removed from several regions. Those areas which earlier witnessed widespread violence, is now fulfilling their dreams and hope while the government is extending its full support towards their aspirations", said PM Modi while addressing the public at Veterinary field in Khanapara, Guwahati.

PM Modi further added that a country cannot progress with a small target. "Previous governments could not maintain big targets nor fulfill their promises. We have now changed the mindset of the previous governments as well", said PM Modi.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his contribution to the state's growth and peace during his opening speech. Sarma credited Modi for bringing peace to Assam and enabling thousands of youth to abandon extremism and reintegrate into mainstream society.

He also highlighted the construction of nine bridges over the Brahmaputra River under Modi's leadership. On Sunday, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones for projects worth Rs 11,600 crore in Guwahati. These projects are expected to improve connectivity in the region, create job opportunities for locals and promote sports participation.
