AIUDF MLA criticizes proposed beef ban in Assam, calls for uniform policy

Following Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's announcement of a complete beef ban in the state, AIUDF MLA and Party General Secretary Dr. (Hafiz) Rafiqul Islam has voiced strong opposition to the move.

He criticized the BJP-led government, stating that such decisions should not dictate individual choices.

"The cabinet should not be deciding what people eat or wear," Dr. Islam remarked. He further questioned the consistency of the BJP's stance on beef, pointing out that the party has not imposed similar bans in states like Goa or across other northeastern states. "If they cannot ban beef in Goa or other northeastern regions, why in Assam? We do not pay much heed to this decision," he added.

The remarks highlight growing dissent over the proposed legislation, with opponents arguing it infringes on personal freedoms and disproportionately impacts certain communities.
