The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has announced its decision not to field candidates in the upcoming by-elections in Assam, following deliberations with party president Badruddin Ajmal and consultations with various intellectuals.
AIUDF leader Rafiqul Islam confirmed the decision, highlighting that the party reached this conclusion after careful consideration of expert advice and internal discussions.
The decision extends to not contesting in the Samaguri constituency, where the AIUDF had previously been expected to participate. The move is seen as a strategic choice aimed at reshaping the party’s political approach in the state.
Speaking to the media, MLA Rafiqul Islam said, "After deliberations and consultations with intellectuals, analysts and Badruddin Ajmal, our party head, we have decided to opt out of the bypolls. Additionally we have also decided not to field any candidates for Samaguri constituency as decided earlier".
