Arunachal's Moran community in jubilant mood after Assam Cabinet approves PRC

In a landmark decision, the Assam Cabinet has approved the issuance of Permanent Residential Certificates (PRCs) to the Moran community residing in Arunachal Pradesh since 1972. The move has sparked celebrations among nearly 5,000 members of the community, who have long sought official recognition.

Addressing the media after the valedictory session of the cabinet meeting at the Assam Secretariat in Dibrugarh, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the decision fulfills a longstanding demand of the Moran people in Arunachal Pradesh. "Due to various reasons, the Arunachal Pradesh government has not been able to issue PRCs to the community. Assam has now taken a decisive step to resolve this issue," Sarma said.

With this decision, eligible members of the Moran community in Arunachal Pradesh will now receive PRCs from Assam, facilitating their access to government benefits, educational opportunities, and employment prospects. The announcement has been hailed as a historic victory for the community, which had been struggling with bureaucratic hurdles for decades.

The Moran people, a significant ethnic group in the region, have been residing in Arunachal Pradesh for generations but have faced challenges in obtaining official documentation.
