Assam: 105-year-old freedom fighter battles illness, family appeals for assistance

Anuram Baruah, a veteran freedom fighter from Assam's Gohpur, renowned for his pivotal role in India's independence struggle, is currently battling illness at 105 years old.

Baruah, who has been bedridden for nearly a month due to inadequate medical care, resides in Gohpur where he remains actively engaged in various social activities.

Expressing concern over his deteriorating health, Baruah's son highlighted the family's efforts to seek assistance from local authorities, including the administration of Gahpur and their MLA. Despite assurances of support from officials, no visitation or assistance has been provided thus far.

"My father, Shri Anuram Barua, has dedicated his life to social causes and remains a pensioner under the Freedom Fighter scheme. We have informed the administration about his condition, but their promised visit is pending," the son stated, urging prompt intervention from the authorities.

In addition to his historical contributions, Baruah continues to participate actively in community events within the Gahpur region. His family has now reached out to the Assam Chief Minister, appealing for immediate medical attention and improved care for the revered freedom fighter.
