Assam woke up to yet another sensational incident on May 4 after a 12-year-old girl’s body was recovered from the septic tank of a residence in Margherita.
As per reports, the minor girl was sexually assaulted and later murdered by one Anan Tanti who is currently on the run.
The incident took place in Margherita’s Segunbari where one woman took her minor daughter to visit Anan Tanti and his family on May 3.
Considering Tanti as her relative, the woman left her minor daughter in their care and went out to attend some task.
As per sources, the woman came in the morning asking for her daughter, to which the wife of Anan Tanti said that she took the little girl and went ahead to leave her at her home. Upon hearing this, the mother of the victim went looking for her daughter, but finally found her in the septic tank of Anan Tanti’s house.
"She was my daughter. Tomorrow same thing might happen with your daughters. All are selfish. No one pays heed to poor people's request. We are poor. Kill us. No one will listen our prayers", said the father of the victim.
Meanwhile, senior police officer Hemanta Kumar Borah while speaking to media said, "“We got the information today evening that the victim came here at the accused’s house with her mother. Later, in the morning time, the victim’s mother left the accused’s home leaving behind her daughter in their home to attend some work. When she returned, the accused’s wife said that she took the victim ahead and left her near her home. The victim was nowhere to be seen, hence the mother lodged a complaint with the Officer-in-charge. A search operation was launched, but there was no trace of the minor girl. Later when the cops questioned the wife of the accused, she then confessed that her husband murdered the minor girl and buried her body on the septic tank of their house. We have recovered the body, though the accused is on the run. Now we are trying to trace the accused and carry on our investigation on the same”.
The body of the minor girl was found buried in the pit inside the septic tank of the accused Anan Tanti. The women's committee as well as the local people created a heated situation in front of Anan Tanti's residence.
Meanwhile, the police have registered a case and hunt is on to trace the accused.
