A major fire broke out in the afternoon of December 18 in Assam's Margherita, burning 15 rented houses into ashes.
According to sources, the fire broke out in front of Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma's office situated at Segunbari under Margherita police station of Tinsukia.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained but locals say four cylinders have already exploded in the ensuing fire leading to further spread of fire.
The massive fire created an atmosphere of panic in the area. Two fire tenders tried to douse the fire, but the flames completely gutted the 15 rented houses owned by Baban Rai.
Meanwhile Margherita police, Margherita Municipal Board reached the spot and took stock of the incident.
