Assam: 2 arrested with drugs at Ledo meat shop in Margherita

In a significant crackdown on the rampant drug peddling in Margherita sub-division, two youths were arrested with substantial quantity of drugs at a meat shop in Ledo on Tuesday, July 23 afternoon. This arrest was made possible by the vigilance of the local business community.

Acting on a tip-off from undisclosed sources, traders at the Ledo Market intercepted the suspects, who were identified as Jahangir Alam from the Itakhola area and Bakul Chen from the Matikhad area of Ledo. The two were caught attempting to smuggle drugs, leading to their immediate capture.

The traders, upon seizing a large quantity of drugs from the suspects, promptly handed them over to the Ledo police. The incident highlights the ongoing drug menace in various parts of the Margherita sub-division of Tinsukia district.

The police confirmed that a probe is underway to determine the extent of the youths' involvement in the drug trade and to uncover any larger networks they may be part of.
