Assam: 22 cattles worth Rs 2.64 lakh seized by BSF troops in Boreralga char area

Vigilant troops of Border Security Force while on a special boat patrol seized 22 cattle heads, allegedly being smuggled through the Brahmaputra river route in the early hours of December 10 morning.

Vigilant troops of BOP Boreralga 45 BN BSF, who were on a special Boat Patrol, spotted suspicious activity by alleged cattle smugglers in the surrounding areas of Boreralga char and Khagrachar.

The suspected smugglers were seen with cattle. However, due to the alertness of the duty troops, the situation was quickly assessed and action was promptly taken. When challenged, the suspects jumped into the Brahmaputra river channel and managed to escape.

The troops promptly surrounded the Boreralga char area and initiated a search operation. They successfully seized 22 buffaloes. The seized cattle are estimated to be worth Rs. 2.64 lakhs.

The vigilant troops of the 45 bnBSF have accomplished a significant achievement. They faced considerable challenges in controlling the entire region due to its riverine and unfenced nature.

The suspected cattle smugglers or couriers scattered the cattle in small groups across the char area to evade detection and capture. A few suspected cattle smugglers or couriers, numbering 2-3, managed to escape under the cover of darkness and the thick wild grass in Boreralga char and Khagrachar.

It should be noted that both Boreralga char and Khagrachar are challenging and notorious for cattle smuggling during the winter season. The riverine nature of the area leads to heavy fog, which limits visibility.
