Assam: 24-year-old man lynched in Dibrugarh, family demands justice

A tragic incident unfolded in Assam's Dibrugarh district, where a young man was allegedly lynched by a group of youths. The victim, identified as 24-year-old Tomlu Sonar, was brutally attacked and killed in the Alubari locality on Wednesday, July 10 night.

 

According to sources, the attack was led by a youth named Deepjyoti Rajbongshi, accompanied by approximately 11-12 others, as an act of retaliation for a previous altercation. Tomlu sustained critical injuries and was urgently transported to the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) for treatment.

 

"His food pipe was ruptured due to continuous beating. All 11 involved in the incident should be arrested immediately and given stringent punishment. I want justice for my deceased husband. My husband never mentioned before why the youths attacked him. But this man Deepjyoti Rajbongshi brutally attacked my husband due to which he died today. I demand stringent action against him", said the wife of the deceased youth.

"I came back from duty. My daughter-in-law came rushing to me saying that my son's condition is not good. I asked her what happened. She said that Biju's boys came and attacked T0mul leading to excessive bleeding. I admitted him in the hospital. I was shocked and wondered what happened. My sweet and simple son. He would move out of home early in the morning. But they finished him", said the grieving mother of the deceased youth. 

 

Despite the medical team's efforts, Tomlu succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, July 11 leaving the people and his kin in shock and mourning.

 

An enquiry has been initiated by the Dibrugarh police to ascertain the root cause behind the attack.
