Assam: 45 bags of Agarwood worth crores seized on Guwahati-Mumbai train

As many as 45 bags of agarwood worth crores were seized in a raid on a train on July 4. The train, travelling from Guwahati to Mumbai, was raided by the authorities during the night in a Bongaigaon railway station. 

For the unversed, agarwood is one of the most expensive woods in the world. It is considered stimulant, antiasthmatic, carminative, tonic, aphrodisiac and astringent. It is used in diarrhoea, dysentery, gout, rheumatism and paralysis.

In this operation, the seized bags, which included 41 bags of dried agarwood pieces and 4 cartons of agaru oil were transported on New Bongaigaon GRPF's Nammanya Tilak Express.

However, authorities have not yet disclosed further details regarding the origins of the agarwood or the individuals involved in the smuggling operation.
