Assam: 50-year-old arrested for allegedly attempting to sexually assault minor in Sribhumi

A 50-year-old man, Haris Uddin, has been arrested by Nilambazar Police on April 3 following allegations of attempted sexual assault against a minor girl in Dasgram area, Sribhumi, Assam

According to statements released by Sribhumi Superintendent of Police (SP) Partha Pratim Das, the accused, Haris Uddin, allegedly entered the victim's residence with the intent to commit sexual assault.

Upon receiving initial reports from the Dasgram area, law enforcement officers responded promptly, apprehending the accused and initiating a formal investigation. The victim has been admitted to a medical facility for examination and treatment.

"As per verbal information received from Dasgram area, a Hindu girl was allegedly attempted to be raped by a Muslim person namely Haris Uddin. OC Nilambazar along with my staff, immediately proceeded to the spot, recorded the statement of the victim girl, and observed that on this morning, taking advantage of the vacant house, the accused Haris Uddin with ill intention arrived at the house of the victim and attempted to rape her. Anticipating the advent of her family members, the accused fled away from the spot. The victim girl is now recovered and has been brought for her medical examination," stated SP Das.

The incident has raised significant concerns regarding community safety, particularly in light of a separate sexual harassment incident on a public bus that occurred within the past 24 hours. 

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent potential law and order disturbances, given the religious affiliations of the individuals involved. Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySP) have been deployed to the area to oversee the situation and ensure the apprehension of all involved parties.
