A massive 8-foot-tall statue of Ahom general Lachit Borphukan, weighing 5 quintals, was ceremoniously brought from Sootea to Jamugurihat in a grand procession.
The procession, marked by great enthusiasm and excitement, saw the participation of numerous people in Chatiya and Jamugurihat. The statue is set to be installed in front of the Kanyaka Marketing Society at Shantipur in Jamugurihat on Lachit Divas, following all traditional and auspicious rituals.
This monumental effort was spearheaded by enterprising youth Neeraj Nishim Hazarika. Sculptor Manjit Hazarika brought the statue to life, which was transported to the Kanyaka Marketing Society in a decorated vehicle accompanied by elephants and floral arrangements, with participants dressed in traditional Assamese attire.
The statue was officially installed in the presence of Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika near National Highway 15, drawing a massive crowd of attendees.
Following the installation, MLA Hazarika commended Neeraj Nishim Hazarika for his dedicated efforts. He emphasized that Lachit’s unmatched patriotism and valor symbolize the Assamese spirit of courage and should inspire future generations to take pride in their heritage and move forward unitedly.
