An abandoned newborn infant was rescued by locals in Assam's Jorhat district early this morning.
Locals discovered the infant crying in a field in Seuj Nagar, Kakatigaon locality, and immediately reported the incident to authorities.
The baby was immediately admitted to the Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH) for medical care. In a similar incident in August this year, a couple from Jorhat district allegedly abandoned their newborn with an unsuspecting teenager before fleeing the scene.
The couple approached the 17-year-old near Baghchung, Lichubari area, handed him the baby, and left hastily. The teenager, taken aback, took the baby home and then to a nearby hospital.
They were referred to the JMCH. The teenager reported that the couple asked him to hold the baby and then disappeared, ignoring his calls. The police have been informed of both incidents.
