Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi has launched a scathing attack on Congress leader and MP Gaurav Gogoi, accusing him of arrogance and emphasizing the need for a united opposition to effectively challenge the BJP’s dominance in Assam.
Speaking to the media ahead of the crucial by-polls, Akhil Gogoi underscored that the opposition’s disunity could pave the way for the BJP's continued political control in the state.
He added, “If Congress holds onto its ego, we will move forward without them. Gaurav Gogoi’s arrogance has become a problem. We supported him with the vision of making him the Chief Minister, but now he thinks he can achieve it alone. I wish him good luck.”
While expressing hope that Congress would secure all five seats in the by-polls, Gogoi acknowledged his party's limited capacity in this election, fielding only one candidate in Behali.
He stated, "We don't have enough candidates, so I am not campaigning actively. However, this election is a step toward strengthening our base for 2026."
Gogoi underlined that the opposition's collective aim should be to oust BJP and also targeted AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal, saying, “To throw Himanta Biswa Sarma and Badruddin Ajmal into the Brahmaputra river politically, opposition unity is crucial.”
The by-polls are expected to be a litmus test for opposition parties ahead of next year's panchayat elections. Gogoi reiterated the importance of working together, hinting that fragmentation within the opposition would only benefit the ruling BJP.
