Upset over the administration’s delayed efforts in providing safe drinking water, villagers consisting of mostly women, stormed onto the roads and protested against the MLA, thus blocking him from inaugurating the water supply system on December 18.
It was a different scenario when MLA Mihir Kanti Shome reached Khaspur’s Shibu Jangal village under the Udharbond constituency to inaugurate the water supply system.
Hundreds of women deprived of clean drinking water staged a demonstration and made the MLA accountable as to why water was not being supplied to them even after the completion of the water supply system’s construction.
Notably, MLA Mihir Kanti Shome could not inaugurate the water supply system, who was constructed at a cost of Rs 94,41,000 at Shibu Jangal village in Khaspur.
Following this, several families have been deprived of the water supply scheme set up at Shibu Jangal village.
Hundreds of women deprived of drinking water benefits staged a protest in front of the MLA, demanding he begin the water supply soon. Finally, to escape the wrath of the public, the MLA called the department engineer and instructed them to provide water to the deprived families.
“There are enough consumers here. The survey that was conducted here reflected a few numbers of beneficiaries. A total of 11-12 surveys have been conducted from Delhi in this regard. The inclusion of names of beneficiaries was conducted online which led to his mistake. And for that mistake, people suffered here. Our engineers are working on this project day and night. Udharbond DC has permitted 64 water supply systems while 20 water systems have been already been inaugurated and in the next two-three months we will be inaugurating 20 more water supply systems," said Mihir Kanti Shome.
