Assam Assembly deputy speaker slams Congress for engaging in alleged communal politics

Numal Momin, the Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, has accused the Congress party of engaging in dangerous religious communal politics. Speaking on the matter, Momin highlighted a specific incident during the governance period in Karnataka, where stark shifts in reservation policies occurred.

"On one hand, Congress is doing very dangerous religious communal politics," stated Momin. "In Karnataka during our government, we removed reservations based on religion. However, when they came to power, they attempted to establish reservations based on religion, thereby depriving the ST, SC, and OBC communities of their rights."

He emphasized that the episode in Karnataka serves as a major example of these practices within the party's framework.

"This is an example of the Congress misleading and always playing appeasement politics," continued Momin. "The most dangerous and communal party in our country is the Congress party."

These statements come at a time of heightened political scrutiny, particularly regarding reservations and identity-based policies amidst the ongoing Lok Sabha elections of 2024.
