The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief, Badruddin Ajmal on May 7 expressed full support for Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav's stance on the issue of reservation for Muslims. Ajmal's statement comes in response to Yadav's declaration of support for Muslim reservation.
Ajmal said, "I just heard the statement of Lalu Prasad Yadav, that he was supporting and demanding Muslim reservation. If his government comes to power, he will give reservation to the Muslims. We welcome his statement and AIUDF welcomes the statement of Lalu Prasad Yadav. The whole of Assam and the whole of India, Muslims welcome his statement."
The AIUDF leader stressed the necessity of Muslim reservation, highlighting the longstanding promise made by various leaders in the past without fruition. "The Muslims of India need this reservation, and it is indeed a great thing happening that Lalu Prasad Yadav is supporting this reservation. Before him, there were many leaders who promised this would happen, but it never did. We hope that Lalu Prasad fulfills his promise and provides relief to the Muslims of the country," Ajmal said.
Earlier on the same day, Lalu Prasad Yadav, while addressing the media, accused the central government of undermining the Constitution and democracy. Asserting his party's strength in the upcoming elections, Yadav voiced his support for Muslim reservation, stating, "Reservation toh milna chahiye Musalmano ko, pura (Muslims must get reservation)."
Yadav also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of spreading fear by invoking the specter of 'Jungle Raj' to manipulate public sentiment. "The votes are on our side. They are saying that there will be 'Jungle Raj' because they are scared, they are trying to instigate. They want to finish the Constitution and democracy," he said.
