Assam: Barpeta court sentences six murderers to life imprisonment

In a verdict delivered by the Fastrack Court in Barpeta, six individuals convicted of a brutal murder have been sentenced to life imprisonment. The convicted individuals, identified as Injamul Hoque, Darog Ali, Saiful Islam, Badsha Fakir, Faridul Islam, and Lal Mamud Khan, were found guilty of committing a heinous murder in the Bandali Reserve of Bahari on April 16, 2022.

According to reports, on that fateful day in April 2022, the victim, Rubul Hoque Choudhary, was accompanied by his girlfriend for a leisurely outing along the river. During their excursion, they came to the attention of Injamul Hoque and his two friends, Saiful Islam and Darog Ali.

It was revealed that Injamul Hoque had previously made advances toward Rubul's girlfriend, which had been unequivocally rejected. Seeing the couple together apparently triggered Injamul's anger, leading him and his two associates, Saiful Islam and Darog Ali, to approach the couple and assault them.

Although the girlfriend was eventually allowed to leave, Rubul was held captive by the assailants. During his captivity, the group of culprits, including Badsha Fakir, Faridul Islam, and Lal Mamud Khan, demanded a ransom of 3 lakhs from Rubul's family.

Due to their economic hardships, Rubul's family was unable to meet the ransom demands. With the money remaining unpaid, the group of six culprits carried out a gruesome murder, brutally ending Rubul's life. His body was disposed of in the Brahmaputra River, while his footwear was left on the riverbank to create the illusion of an accidental drowning.

It is worth noting that among the murderers, Injamul Hoque had previously made unwanted advances toward Rubul's girlfriend, leading to her rejection.
