Assam: Barpeta education officer accused of land grabbing, victim seeks CM’s intervention

An incident of alleged land grabbing has come to light, with allegations against Ratul Kumar Das, the Primary Education Officer of Barpeta district, and his brother Manasjyoti Das, a dentist at ONGC. Ratan Saha, a resident of Sarupeta in Bajali district, has accused the duo of illegally transferring his land through fraudulent means.

According to Saha, the Das brothers allegedly misused their influence and leveraged their close ties with the Bajali District Commissioner to manipulate land records in their favor. He claims that while he was away for work, his land was fraudulently registered in their names in 2016 using false documentation. Later, in 2022, the accused reportedly divided and redistributed two kathas of the land among themselves.

After discovering the fraud, Saha lodged a complaint with the Chief Minister’s Office, leading to a correction of land records by the Sarupeta Revenue Circle. However, despite this official rectification, he remains unable to reclaim his rightful property and is currently living in a rented house.

Escalating the matter further, Saha filed a formal complaint with the Chief Minister’s Grievance Cell, following which the Bajali District Commissioner was instructed to facilitate the land’s return. However, despite the directive, no action has been taken so far.

In a desperate plea through the media, Saha has urged the Chief Minister to intervene, seeking justice and the return of his land. Local residents have also extended their support, demanding an immediate resolution to the dispute.
