Assam: Bhupen Borah's words may transform him into 'Duryodhana' of Mahabharata, says Pijush Hazarika

A war of words has erupted between BJP Minister Pijush Hazarika and Bhupen Borah, as accusations of promoting "bad culture" took center stage in the political arena. Minister Hazarika claimed that if the act of tearing clothes symbolizes an unsavory culture, then Bhupen Borah is its chief proponent. The Minister's comments come in the wake of Bora's own incident of tearing his clothes during the eviction drive in Mangaldai.

Hazarika reiterated, "If the fabric of our society is being tainted by such actions, the primary purveyor of this negative culture is Bhupen Borah. He himself tore his own clothes while attempting to evict encroachers. This incident is not forgotten, and his actions reflect on his own character."

Responding to Borah's allegations against him, Hazarika defended himself, clarifying, "I have never stated that I will resort to tearing clothes. My words were a metaphorical indication that my words would strip away the illusions some may hold. I didn't mention anyone by name. However, if someone assumes it to be an attack on them, what can I do?"

Borah had previously labeled Hazarika's governance as "misrule," prompting Hazarika to assert, "Bhupen Borah's own words will turn him into a symbol of misrule, akin to Duryodhana from the epic Mahabharata. The upcoming elections will reveal the truth. We anticipate securing 11 to 12 seats initially, eventually reaching 26 victories. The future will unveil who stands as the Pandavas and Kauravas of this political narrative."

The verbal sparring intensified as Minister Hazarika referenced a sexual harassment case reportedly filed against leadership figures within Borah's party. Hazarika stated, "Their own party workers have leveled accusations against their leaders. I won't name names, but the situation speaks for itself."

Regarding recent political events, Hazarika scrutinized the attendance at a Congress gathering. He remarked, "The attendance numbers at the recent Congress event appear questionable. If the figures stand at 350, 100, 250, and 200 on consecutive days, I must ask if there were more attendees than this."

Furthermore, Hazarika called out Borah's social media activity, asserting, "Bhupen Borah's Facebook page lacks public photos; it mainly features dice-related imagery. The absence of public photos and videos from their recent events raises doubts. I request Bhupen Borah to share more comprehensive documentation."
