Assam: Bodo student union demands Bodoland University's VC's removal over corruption charges

The All Bodo Student Union (ABSU) held a massive protest rally on September 30 in Kokrajhar against the vice chancellor of Bodoland University Laishram Ladu over corruption charges.

The protesters during the protest burnt the effigies of the vice chancellor as well as the members of the inquiry committee set up by the governor of Assam such as Dr. Mihir Kanti Choudhury of Secretariat Adviser Governor House, Additional Chief Secretary to Govt. of Assam Higher Education Department, S.K. Dev of Prof. Department of Civil Engineering IIT Guwahati, Dr. B.B. Misra of Finance Officer Tezpur University.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the investigation process of the inquiry committee, ABSU demanded immediate removal of Ladu.

A case of embezzlement of huge sums of money from the university was registered against the vice chancellor on 30-5-2022. CM Vigilance seized three files each from the university documents. 

Vice-Chancellor Ladu Singh got bail after his arrest under registered case No. 01/2022U/S 120B/420/409IPC R/W Sec.13(a)/13(b) of PC Act.1988. 

ABSU has sought the intervention of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in connection with the incident.
