An alarming incident took place near the Dolmukh Chariali area of Sivasagar city on November 12 when a suspicious bomb-like object was discovered in front of a clothing store. The object, which raised immediate concerns about safety, was found near the District Library by a shopkeeper.
The shopkeeper noticed a suspicious bag placed near his shop and, sensing something unusual immediately informed the local police. A large police presence quickly descended on the scene, including senior officers and a specialized Bomb Squad.
Upon inspection, the object was found to resemble a bomb, constructed with electrical wires, a battery and small pieces of wire.
In response, Sivasagar police secured the area and deployed an explosive ordnance disposal blanket to carefully transport the object to a safe location for further examination. The authorities however could not immediately confirm whether the item was a live bomb or a decoy.
This incident follows recent reports of an abduction plot involving the banned insurgent group ULFA ( I ) , which has reportedly been extorting money from local business owners in the region.
