In a day filled with intense discussions and arguments, the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Assembly convened on December 28 at the BTC Council Assembly Building in Kokrajhar. Chaired by BTC Chairman Katiram Boro, the session addressed crucial issues including the seventeen-year rule of Hagrama's leadership and financial aid for the martyrs of the Bodoland movement.
The assembly, which brought together representatives from the ruling United People's Party Liberal (UPPL), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) and the opposition Bodoland People's Front (BPF) witnessed heated debates on various topics. Among the contentious subjects were proposals related to financial assistance and self-employment for former members of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB).
One particularly charged moment during the session harkened back to September 17 of the previous year, as members discussed the killing of Himanta Narzary by forest guards in the Jaharbari region of the Hultogaon forest division in Kokrajhar district.
Despite the tumultuous exchanges, two pivotal proposals emerged during the proceedings. The Green Bodoland Mission presented a plan addressing future security and rights of children in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Additionally, discussions were held regarding the region's commitment to these crucial aspects.
Notably, for the fourth consecutive time, former BTC Chief Executive and BPF Party President Hagrama Mohilary remained conspicuously absent from the assembly.
