Assam: BTC CEM Pramod Boro inaugurates pearl cultivation facility in Kokrajhar

In a significant move aimed at advancing pearl cultivation and empowering women in Bodoland, BTC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro inaugurated a state-of-the-art "Operation Room for Surgical Procedures in Pearl Cultivation" at Samabai Bhawan, Titaguri, Kokrajhar on Monday. The facility, established under the aegis of the Department of Cooperation, BTC, represents a key expansion of pearl farming initiatives in Assam, following the project's success in Nagaon.

The new operation room is designed to enhance the quality and yield of pearls through advanced surgical techniques, a crucial step in elevating the region's pearl production standards. The initiative is spearheaded by the Swrang Pear Processing & Allied Cooperative Society, which is at the forefront of promoting specialized surgical procedures in pearl cultivation within the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). The facility will provide vital support to local pearl farmers, offering them specialized training and technical assistance to improve their skills, thereby fostering economic growth in the area.

Addressing the gathering at the inauguration, CEM Pramod Boro underscored the transformative potential of pearl cultivation in empowering women across the BTR. He emphasized the importance of raising awareness among women about the opportunities in this field, urging them to seize the chance to enhance their livelihoods through pearl farming. Boro commended the efforts of the Cooperation Department in spearheading this initiative and reaffirmed the BTC administration's commitment to governance that is transparent, efficient, and results-driven, with the goal of bringing about meaningful development in Bodoland.

During the event, Boro also awarded certificates to 16 trainees who successfully completed their training in advanced pearl cultivation techniques, recognizing their expertise and dedication to the craft.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by notable figures including MCLA Madhab Chetry, BTC Joint Secretary for Cooperation Pami Brahma, Council Head of the Department for Cooperation Jayanta Kherkatary, Chairman of the Assam Pearl Development Cooperative Society Swarnalata Devi, Pearl Expert Ruren Hazarika, along with trainees and other enthusiasts dedicated to advancing pearl cultivation in the region.
