Assam Police on September 26 intercepted a Bolero pickup van in Golakganj and seized cattle heads hidden inside a secret chamber of the vehicle, which was on its way to Gauripur from West Bengal.
As per sources, on-duty police officer Naresh Chandra Roy along with a constable intercepted a pick-up van at around 11 pm on Tuesday night at Ratia-dah under Golakganj police station. The police team suspecting the vehicle checked and found no fish, instead discovered cows hidden inside a secret chamber of the vehicle.
Once Roy get conformed, he immediately informed Golakganj police station I/c officer Debojit Kalita about the incident and locked the driver and handyman inside the vehicle.
Meanwhile, Kalita along with a police team reached the spot and recovered nine live cattle heads and one dead. Both the driver and handyman were apprehended by Golakganj police and the vehicle bearing registration number WB-65B-0888 was seized.
The suspected porters were identified as Quddus Ahmed and Altab Hussain, both residents of West Bengal. The Golakganj police have began their interrogation and are investigating the matter.
