Assam: Chirang court sentences businessman to five years for sexual assault under POCSO Act

The District and Sessions Court of Chirang has sentenced Babul Das (51), a well-known garment trader from Basugaon, to five years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the accused.

Presided over by Judge C. Chaturvedi, the court delivered its ruling after a swift judicial process that concluded within just ten months. The case, filed on March 2, 2024, at Basugaon Police Station, saw efficient investigation and legal proceedings, culminating in today’s verdict.
