Tensions escalated in Sivasagar as the Assam Police clashed with protesters demanding the repeal of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The rally, organized by the Sivasagar District Students' Union (SDSU) faced heavy resistance from the police.

The students union had planned a robust demonstration near the KPM intersection, originating from the AASU office. However, the police administration intervened, blocking the procession in the evening. Despite the obstruction, AASU workers, armed with sticks, persisted, leading to confrontations between law enforcement and demonstrators. The clash resulted in casualties on both sides.

Earlier , In a demonstration against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the Dibrugarh District unit of the All Assam Students Union (AASU) commenced a torch rally from Swahid Nyas, Chowkidinghee, Dibrugarh, aiming to march towards Dibrugarh town. However, their protest was swiftly halted as Dibrugarh Police intervened, preventing the rally from advancing beyond the Swahid Nyas gate.

The torch rally, organized by the AASU, was intended as a vocal expression against the contentious CAA.
