Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has raised serious national security concerns, alleging that a senior Congress MP from Assam visited Pakistan for 15 days without informing either the Government of Assam or the Government of India.
Without naming the MP, Sarma claimed the visit was conducted secretly via the Attari land border to avoid airport scrutiny. He added that the MP also travelled to Nepal and Dubai during the same period—countries where, according to Sarma, intelligence agencies like Pakistan’s ISI were “highly active.”
“These are not minor matters. He did not inform any authorities. There were no public engagements reported during the visit—it was mostly clandestine,” Sarma said.

The Chief Minister further alleged that the MP’s wife received a salary for three years from a Pakistani organization while she was working in Delhi. “We have documented evidence and statements from members of that organization confirming the transactions,” Sarma revealed, adding that the matter is under investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
The SIT is scheduled to meet the MP and his family in June or July to record their statements. A comprehensive report is expected to be released before September.
“This is a matter of grave concern involving national security. The Assam Police SIT will examine whether the visits to Pakistan and Nepal were linked or independent. We are committed to bringing the facts before the people,” Sarma concluded.
