Assam CM calls for NRC implementation in Jharkhand to protect state's demographic integrity

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who also serves as the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) co-in-charge for the electoral campaign, raised concerns over demographic changes linked to immigration. Addressing the issue on October 23, Sarma highlighted his firsthand observations of population shifts in Assam, attributing them to illegal infiltration from neighboring countries.

Drawing a parallel, Sarma noted, "The Muslim population in Assam has nearly doubled since 1951 due to the influx of infiltrators. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress have similar plans for Jharkhand, but the BJP is committed to implementing the National Register of Citizens (NRC) to protect the state's demographic integrity."

The Chief Minister emphasized the significance of Hindu culture in Jharkhand's identity, declaring that the state's existence hinges on maintaining its Hindu populace. "It’s not about making someone an MLA or chief minister; it’s about ensuring Jharkhand survives with its cultural heritage intact," he remarked.

Positioning the upcoming election as a fight against extremism, Sarma urged voters to rally behind the BJP, framing the polls as a decisive moment to safeguard the state’s future.
