Assam CM urges strong action against drug-linked politicians during rally in Sonipat

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shed light on the growing menace of drug trafficking across the nation, highlighting the frequent recovery of narcotics in Assam.

Addressing a public rally in Haryana's Sonipat, CM Sarma stressed that during interrogations, suspects often disclose their intent to transport drugs like heroin and cannabis to northern states such as Punjab and Haryana.

"Every day, we recover heroin, ganja, or other illegal substances," Sarma stated. "Upon interrogation, the suspects reveal that these substances are destined for Punjab and Haryana. You all know who these individuals are," he remarked, alluding to the deeper networks behind these operations.

Sarma further emphasized the Assam government's commitment to combating the drug trade, sharing that in the past three and a half years, over 200 individuals involved in drug-related crimes have either been apprehended or neutralized by the state police.

In a stern message, he urged the public to remain vigilant and warned against allowing anyone with connections to the drug trade to enter politics. "I request you all, whoever has any relation with such things, we should never allow them to come into politics," the Chief Minister concluded, reinforcing his stance against the involvement of criminals in governance.
